Performance Video Library

Friday, February 15th, 2008

If there is one thing I have found just as useful as knowing the trick, its having a perfect performance video to train to. Now yes, you have all seen the following teaser videos, BUT in them contains the information one needs for a perfect performance. Now they are all in one location for you to watch till your eyes bugg out. Check out the new “Video Performance Library” page which will contain an updated, Catagorized library of performance videos for some of the best tricks we can find. A free magic library

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Through my online journeys and searches over the past few days trying to find more content for the site, I am finding myself in awe over the insane amount of free information that exists out there regarding magic and illusions. I’m not talking about “exposure”, that is boring, I’m talking about good solid “Textual Data” on magic. The following are books for download at Google books, and all completely FREE. Some are only previews, while many that I came across have much of the book available.

Check this online copy of the “Memoirs of Robert Houdini” for download at google books.

My Best Self-Working Card Tricks

or The Complete Idiots Guide to Magic Tricks, a 374 page book on magic tricks

Science Experiments Index - (Science and magic Rocks!)

Presenting and Training with Magic - 53 simple tricks you can do to energize any audience.

Magic in Theory: An Introduction to the Theoretical and Psychological

Self-Working Card Tricks: 72 Foolproof Card Miracles for the Amateur Magician

Scarne on Card Tricks - 55 professional card trick

Encyclopedia of Card Tricks - 402 pages (wow)

The Little Giant Book of Card Tricks - 352 pages

The Art of Magic -352 pages

Self-Working Number Magic: 101 Foolproof Tricks - 154 pages

and the list goes on and on and on to no end.Id be willing to bet you that almost any modern effect out there today was inspired by a trick that was learned by the creator from books JUST like the ones listed above. Id even bet there is a torn and restored card routine you could tweak in one of those books. This is such a great find I am creating a page titled “Magic Library” in the upper right sidebar which will contain this list of links AND I will continue to update it and organize it as I find more relevant books to add to the library (and trust me I will) so be sure and bookmark the library and NOT this post.

Cheers

Take a gander at July of 2003

or how about just a couple of years ago

You can lookup any site you like at the wayback machine. Try Penguin or even Theory11

Comming Soon - a DIY magnetic quarter

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

Cost of a steel core magnetic quarter - $30

Cost of a replacement Steel quarter to replace the one you lost - $30

Making an unlimited number of magnetic quarters for less than a dollar each so that you don’t friggin care if you loose it - PRICELESS

We are very excited to announce that we’re currently working on a free DIY video project for making magnectic quarters using things you most likely all ready have around the house. No more paying 30 bucks for a replacement because your girl accidently spent it from the laundry money jar. Imagine the possibilities this will open, being able to make several of these. This will enable you to have spectators sign the coin as you will not care too deeply about it. We are still fine tuning the quirks to make it as practical yet inspectable as possible, but we should hopefully have something within the next week or so.

However, the imagination doesn’t stop there. We plan to come up with much more of this type of content exclusively to the site in the future. So be sure to join and bookmark now.
In the meantime please check out some of our other fun project to your right.

Welcome to Phatus.com!

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

Thank you for visiting Phatus.comHere at phatus.com we are in search of the most recent and original magic/bar trick content and ideas. Here you will find up to date video blog postings of random magic related material such as card tricks, original street magic(both intra-phatus and extra-phatus) and our growing library of DIY magic gimmick projects to help save you some money if necessary. DO NOT get me wrong, although we make some free DIY videos for magic gaffs, this does not mean that we discourage anyone from buying a professional product from magic shop. It is however, always nice to have backups of things like magnetic quarters. Please feel free to send us your magic/bar trick videos but remember, THIS IS NOT AN EXPLOIT SITE!!! If you would like to submit a video, then we are looking for totally original content and/or new innovations to classic illusions. Please do not send in videos revealing secrets to currently marketed tricks, they will not be posted.

Our goal is to eventually establish an online community of innovative magicians that will make us the phatus corner of illusions on internet. We also hope to share ideas through the private forums in the hopes of improving our magic and those who collaborate. An “opensource” approach to things for lack of a better term.

Please enjoy your stay and check back often as we update as much as possible.

Thank you ,

Phatus
